Abscess (noun): a swollen area within the body, containing a build up of puss
Altered (verb): changed or caused to change in character or composition in often small but important ways
Assurance (noun): belief in oneself
Blotted (verb): marked or stained
Boisterous (adj): noisy and energetic
Damsels (noun): young unmarried women; a term popular in Westerns where the damsels were often in “distress,” or calling out for help
Dimpled (adj.): having dimples, or small depressions in the flesh
Hideous (adj.): ugly or disgusting
Makeshift (adj): serving as a temporary substitute
Maternally (adv.): mother-like
Pastime (noun): an activity that someone does regularly for enjoyment
