Digital Citizenship

TermDefinition
Active Footprint Information you choose to share on purpose — posts, comments, profiles.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology that can perform tasks like understanding language or generating content, based on patterns learned from data.
Attribution Giving credit to the original creator of a piece of work you use.
Bias A slant in information that favors one side or perspective over accuracy.
Clickbait A headline or title designed to grab attention and get clicks, often exaggerated or misleading.
Copyright A legal right that gives the creator of an original work control over how it's used, copied, and shared.
Creative Commons A type of license that lets creators share their work while setting rules for how others can use it, such as requiring credit.
Credibility How trustworthy or believable a source of information is.
Cross-Check Verifying a claim by checking it against other trustworthy, independent sources.
Cyberattack An attempt by someone to steal, damage, or gain unauthorized access to data or systems.
Digital Citizenship Using technology safely, responsibly, and ethically.
Digital Footprint The trail of information you leave behind through your online activity.
Digital Identity The picture of you that forms online, built from everything you post, share, and do.
Fair Use A legal exception allowing limited use of copyrighted material without permission, usually for education, commentary, or criticism.
Intellectual Property Original work — writing, art, music, inventions — that is legally owned by its creator.
Malware Harmful software designed to damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to a device or network.
Media Balance Using media and technology in a way that feels healthy and fits well with the rest of your life.
Misinformation False or inaccurate information, whether or not it's shared on purpose.
Passive Footprint Information collected about you without you actively posting it — search history, location, ads.
Password A secret combination of characters used to verify your identity and protect an account.
Permanence The idea that content posted online can last far longer than intended, even after being deleted.
Personal Information Details that can identify or locate you, such as your name, address, or birthdate.
Phishing A scam that tries to trick you into giving up personal information by pretending to be a real company or person.
Public Domain Creative work that isn't protected by copyright and can be used freely by anyone.
Red Flag A warning sign that something might not be safe, honest, or trustworthy.
Ripple Effect The way content can spread far beyond its original audience as it's shared, screenshotted, and reposted.
Sensitive Information Personal details that could be risky to share, like passwords or your exact location.
