Analyze To break something apart and examine its parts to understand how or why it works. How/why does it matter?
evidence Details or information from the text that support your thinking or answer. What proves it?
infer To figure something out that the author does not directly tell you by using cluses form the text and what you already know. What can I figure out?
Identify To name or point out something specific. What is it?
Describe To tell about something using details. Include what it looks like, sounds like, feels like, or what happens. What is it like? What details can I give?
Support To use evidence, examples, or details to prove or strengthen your answer. How can I prove my answer?
Explain To tell how or why something happens using details and reasoning. How does it work? Why did it happen?
Determine To figure out or decide something after thinking about the information and evidence. What can I figure out from the clues?
Compare Looks at similarities or things that are the SAME. Uses words such as like, both, similarly, also, same, in common
Contrast Looks at DIFFERENCES. Uses words such as unlike, in contrast, on the other hand, but, however.
Summarize Telling the most important parts of a story or article in a short and simple way, using your own words
Relevant closely connected, fitting, or important to what you are talking about or doing right now.
