| industry certification | a designation earned by demonstrating expertise in a specific subject area |
| Advanced Placement | a program in which students may earn college credit by obtaining a certain score on the national Advanced Placement examination |
| International Beccalaureate Diploma Programme | a program of study that allows students to meet the admissions requirements of international universities |
| assiciate's degree | an academic title granted after completing a two-year college program |
| bachelor's degree | an academic title granted after completion of a four-year program at a college or university |
| major | an area of study in which a student specializes while in school |
| graduate degree | an academic title granted after one to two years of study beyond a bachelor's degree |
| doctoral degree | the most advanced degree, an academic title requiring three years of study beyond a bachelor's degree |
| plan | a savings plan for education operated by a state or educational institution. It can only be used to fund a college education or pay for other college expenses |
| scholarship | a financial award that may be based on financial need or some type of merit or accomplishment |
| grant | a financial award typically provided by a nonprofit organization. Grants are generally based on the financial need of the student. |
