| rotate | to spin around an axis |
| axis | an imaginary line that runs through the center of the Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole |
| revolve | to travel in a closed path around the sun |
| orbit | an object's path in space around another object |
| moon | a small planet-like body that revolves around earth rather than the sun |
| phases | as the moon revolves around the Earth, different amounts of its lit surface can be seen |
| solar system | is a group of objects in space that orbit a star in the center, plus the star itself |
| planet | a large object that revolves around a star in a clear orbit |
| dwarf planet | also revolves around a star, but its path is not clear of other objects |
| comet | a ball of rock, ice and frozen gases |
| star | a huge ball of superheated gases |
| sun | a star that is at the center of our solar system |
| constellation | a group of stars that form an imaginary picture in the sky |
| galaxy | a huge system of gases, dust, and stars |
| universe | everything that exists in space |
