TermDefinition
Constant Something that stays the same during an experiment.
Variable Any factor, trait, or condition that can change or be changed in an experiment.
Dependent variable The variable that is observed and that changes in response to the independent variable.
Experimental group The group in a research study or scientific experiment that receives the specific treatment, intervention, or variable being tested.
Independent variable The variable that is deliberately changed.
Inference A logical interpretation based on what scientists already know.
Observation The act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way.
Peer review Scientists share findings with other scientists by publishing their hypotheses, experimental methods, results, and analysis in scientific journals.
Bias A personal, rather than scientific, point of view for, or against, something.
Controlled group Is exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except for changes in the independent variable.
