variable factors that can change during an experiment
dependent variable the variable that is observed and that changes in response to the independent variable
experimental group group in an experiment where the participant or object is being tested
independent variable the variable deliberately changed
inference logical interpretation based on what scientists already know
observation the act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way
peer review scientists sharing findings with other scientists by publishing their hypotheses, experimental methods, results, and analysis in scientific journals
bias personal, rather than scientific, point of view for, or against, something
controlled group exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except for changes in the independent variable
