Constant Stays the same
Inference A logical interpretation based on what scientists already know
Observation The act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way
Independent variable The variable that is deliberately changed
Dependent variable The variable that is observed and changes in response to the independent variable (what we measure)
Control group The group/factor that gets no special treatment
Peer review Papers are reviewed by anonymous, independent reviewers who look carefully for mistakes, oversights, unfair influences, or fraud, in technique and analysis
Bias A personal, rather than scientific, point of view, for or against something
Variable A factor that can change
Experimental group The group that gets special treatment (independent variable)
