TermDefinition
constant any factor that a researcher deliberately keeps the same throughout an experiment to ensure valid results.
variable any factor, trait, or condition in a living system or experiment that can change, be controlled, or be measured.
dependent variable the factor that you measure or test in an experiment.
experimental group the set of test subjects, cells, or organisms that receives the specific treatment or condition being tested in an experiment.
independent variable the condition or factor that a scientist deliberately changes or manipulates in an experiment to test its effect on a living system.
inference a logical conclusion or educated guess drawn from direct observations, background knowledge, and available data.
observation the active process of gathering information about living things, cells, or ecosystems using the human senses or tools like microscopes.
Peer review the process where other expert scientists check a research paper.
bias a systematic error or deviation from the true results in experimental design, data collection, or publication.
controlled group a standard baseline group in an experiment that does not receive the test treatment or intervention.
