TermDefinition
Constant Does not vary in an experiment. The value stays fixed.
Variable Factors that can change in an experiment.
Dependent Variable The variable that changes in response to the independent variable and is observed.
Independent Variable The variable that is deliberately changed.
Experimental Group Set of participants in a study that recieve treatment.
Inference A logical interpretation based on what scientists already know. This leads to a hypothesis.
Observation The act of noticing and decribing events or processes in a careful, orderly way. [Scientific investagations begin with this step]
Peer Review The act of scientists [or students] sharing their results and findings by publishing their hypothesis for other scientists to see.
Bias Personal point of view for, or againsts.
Controlled Group Group exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except for changes in the independent variable. Unchanged and controlled.
