dependent variable the outcome or response that you measure in a scientific experiment
experimental group the set of test subjects that receives the specific treatment or intervention being tested in a scientific study
independent variable the specific factor that a scientist changes or manipulates in an experiment to test its effects
inference a logical conclusion or interpretation drawn from collected data, direct observations, and prior knowledge
observation the active gathering of information from a primary source using the senses or scientific instruments
peer review an quality-control process where independent experts in the same scientific field evaluate a research paper before it is published
bias a systematic error that skews study results and leads to false conclusions
controlled group a standard baseline in a scientific experiment that does not receive the test treatment
