TermDefinition
constant The part of an experiment that stays the same throughout the experiment.
control group A group in an experiment that does not receive the test treatment
dependent variable The thing that you measure or observe to see how it reacts to changes in the independent variable
experimental group The test group that receives the specific treatment, intervention, or change in the independent variable being studied
independent variable The specific factor that a researcher changes or manipulates in an experiment to test its effect
inference A logical interpretation based on what scientists already know
observation The act of noticing and describing events or processes
peer review The critical evaluation of research manuscripts by independent experts in the same field before publication
bias A personal rather than scientific point of view for, or against something
variable The factor, trait, or condition that can change or be controlled
