foreshadowing a storytelling tool
plot a sequence of events that make up a story in a book, movie, or play
metaphor a figure of speech that compares two different things by saying one thing is another
symbolism practice of using a person, object, or situation or word to represent a deeper meaning beyond its literal sense
theme the central message underlining meanings or main idea that an author weaves through a story, movie, or piece of art
context clues hints an extra information in a sentence or passage that helps a reader figure out the meaning of a new or difficul word without reading a dictionary.
stanza a group of lines in a poem that form a single unit
fiction any story or creative work made up from the writers mind
suffix a letter or a group of letters added to the end of a base word
setting the time place and general environment where some things happen or a specific control level on a machine
genre a category of art, writings, movies, or films that are set apart by a particular style form or content
simile a figure of speech that combines two different things using like or as
first person a story telling style where a character in the story narrates the events from their own perspective using pronouns like I me my and me.
mood a temporary state of mind or feeling such as being happy, sad, or cranky
hyperbole a figure of speech that uses extreme exaggerated to hymn to make a point show string feelings or add humor
synonym a significant sense definition and purpose
chronological arranged in the order of events that happen in time starting with the earliest and moving forward to the most recent
conflict a clash or struggle between people, groups, or a opposing fornces
tone the attitude, quantity or mood of a sound, a pierce of sound or a color
personificarion a figure of speech that gives human traits emotions or actions to non human things like objects, animals, or items
imaginary the use of descriptive language by writers to appeal to the five senses sight, sound, smell, taste and touch
protagonist the main character in a book, movie, play or story
moral relates to the principals of right and wrong behavior
