What is Divine Inspiration? The special guidance that the Holy Spirit gave to the human writers for the bible
What is Sacred Scripture? The written account of God’s revelation and relationship with his people
Why is scripture important? It communicates God’s saving truth
How does Divine Inspiration work? The Bible was written by human authors with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in their own language without error
How was the Bible developed over time? God acted in history and people experienced His presence. These experiences were passed on through oral tradition. They were eventually written and recognized as inspired.
What does the Old Testament focus on? The story of God’s presence in his saving plan for his people, the Israelites
What does the New Testament focus on? Rose out of the community of the Apostles and Disciples who heard what Jesus preached, saw his miracles and healings and witnessed His death and Resurrection
What is Sacred Tradition? The revelation of the good news of Jesus as lived out in the church, past and present
Why did Tradition exist before Scripture? The Apostles preached the Gospel before scripture was written and Tradition preserves the Apostles’ teaching
How does tradition help to interpret scripture? Includes teachings and practices handed down from the time of Jesus through his Apostles and the whole church
How does Scripture and Tradition work together? Scripture is written and tradition is the lived expression of god’s word - Both communicate revelation and cannot be separated
How did the Church Fathers preserve Tradition? Tradition preserved the Apostles teaching
What is the Deposit of Faith? All the truth contained in Scripture and tradition that Christ revealed and entrusted to the Apostles and thus to their successors, the Bishop, and to the entire church
What is the Magisterium? The living teaching office of the church

How does the church continue to live the truth today? Together they preserve the Revelation for every generation
