Nature of science
Unit 1
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| empirical evidence | the observations, measurements, and other types of data that people gather and test to support and evaluate scientific |
| theory | the explanation for some phenomenon that is based on observation, experimentation |
| law | A rule that is in science that scientist need to follow or avoid to make their experiments accurate around these laws (like gravity) |
| experiment | A part of the cycle of science which is where scientist test their hypothesis in either controlled rooms are nature |
| hypothesis | A (supposed to be) testable which scientist make up and test during their experiments |
| dependent variable | Variables that depend on something for example independent variable like sunlight and he dependent one for conclusions and data is the dependent variable the flower |
| observation | The beginning of the scientific loop/method and is when the scientist/experimenter observes are sees something and wonders why |
| independent variable | The variable that doesn't depend on anything and is the thing that is used and customized for each and every experiment |
| data | The information/ results gained from an experiment |
| model | A reference to something that is too small and is used to show a example of an object like cells and DNA. |
| engineering | The application of science and mathematics to design, build, and create solutions to real-world problems |
| technology | The tools, machinery, systems, and practical products developed from scientific knowledge to solve human problems |
| Prototype | A rough design of a object and is similar to a model but is mostly used for engineering and for creating certain objects |
| trade-off | The process of giving up one desirable feature or advantage to gain another competing feature or benefit |
| life cycle analysis | The process of evaluating the complete environmental impact of a product or service from production to disposal |
| pugh chart | A decision-making matrix tool used by teams to objectively evaluate and score different design ideas against a set of criteria |
| risk-benefit analysis | A comparison used to weigh the negative outcomes (risks) against the positive outcomes (benefits) of a choice or project |
