| mass | a measure of the amount of matter in a object |
| volume | a measure of how much space an object takes up |
| physical property | a charecteristic of matter that can be observered and of measured |
| magnetism | the ability of a material to be attracted to a magnet without needing to be a magnet themselfs |
| reflectivity | the way light bounces off an object |
| solubility | the maximum amount of a substance that can be dissolved by another substance |
| chemical property | a charecteristic that can only be observerd when the type of matter chnages |
| combustibility | the ability to burn |
| corrosion | the gradual wearing away of a metal as it combines with nonmetals in its envirorment |
| nucleus | the center of an atom that has most of its matter |
| proton | a tiny bundle of energy through which light travels |
| neutron | a particle in the nucleus of an atom that has no electric charge |
| electron | a particle in the space outside the nucleus of an ato, that carries onw unit negative electric charge |
| molecule | a particle that contains more than one atom joined together |
| mixture | a physical combination of tub or ore substances, that are blended together forming new substances |
| colloid | a type of mixture in which the particles of the material are scattered through another and block the passage of light without selling out |
| solution | a mixture of substances that are blended so completely that the mixture looks the same everywhere |
| alloy | a solution of a metal at least one or the other solid which is often a metal |
