Unit 1 Vocab

TermDefinition
Solid one of the states of matter that keeps its fixed shape and fixed volume
Liquid one of the states of matter that has a fixed volume, but does not have a fixed shape. It takes the shape of its container.
Gas one of the states of matter that
Atoms the smallest, basic unit of all that exists (living or nonliving)
Kinetic Energy energy of objects in motion (Kin Energy)
Volume the amount of definite space a substance or object takes up (solid or liquid)
Fluid Had indefinite shape and is able to flow (gases and liquids)
Melt a physical change from a solid to a liquid by adding heat
Freeze a physical change from a liquid to a solid by taking away heat
Evaporation a physical change from a liquid to a gas by adding heat
Condensation a physical change from a gas to a liquid by taking away heat
Shape a definite form a substance takes up in space
Matter anything that takes up space and has mass
Mass the amount of matter inside a substance or object
