QuestionAnswer
Biology The study of living organisms and the environments they live in.
Atoms Smallest particle of an element that displays the properties of an element.
Molecules Union of two or more atoms of the same element.
Cell The smallest structural and functional unit of an organism.
Tissue A group of similar cells that perform a particular function.
Organ Made up of several types of tissues, each organ belongs to an organ system.
Organ system Work together to accomplish a common purpose.
Organisms A collection of organ systems.
Population Members of similar organisms within a particular area.
Species All of the population of similar organisms that are capable of interbreeding.
Community Interacting populations in a given area.
Ecosystem The community of populations interacts with the physical environment.
Biosphere All of earth's ecosystems.
Energy The capacity to do work.
Metabolism The sum of all the chemical reactions that occur within a cell or organism.
Photosynthesis The harvestment of the energy of the sun and converting it to chemical energy.
Homeostasis A constant internal environment.
Reproduce To produce a new individual of the same type.
Growth Increase in the number of cells and/or the size of the cells.
Development Group of stages , by which in organism changes during its lifespan.
DNA Nucleic acid polymer produced from covalent bonding of nucleotide monomers that contain the sugar deoxyribose; the genetic material for nearly all organisms.
Genes Short sequences of heredity material that specify the instructions of a specific trait.
Mutations Minor variations in genes.
Natural selection The mechanism in which evolution occurs.
Evolution Process by which a population changes over time.
Adaptation Organisms modification in structure, function or behavior suitable to the environment.
