| aerodynamics | the study of how gasses (air) flow over moving objects |
| air pressure | the force exerted on the surface of objects by air particles |
| Bernoulli's Principle | helps explain how an airplane can achieve lift because of the shape of its wings. Air flows faster over the top and slower underneath. Fast air = low pressure, slow air = high pressure. The high pressure underneath lifts the plane up. |
| drag | the force of resistance or friction that slows down an object moving through the air |
| flight | the action or process of moving through air |
| friction | a force acting between two objects that stops or slows down movement |
| gravity | the pulling force that attracts objects together |
| launch | to start or set in motion |
| lift | the upward force created by the shape of an aircraft's wings moving through the air |
| mass | the amount of matter in an object |
| thrust | the force that moves an airplane forward |
| weight | the measure of the strength of the pull of gravity on an object |
