Astronomical Unit The distance from Earth to the Sun.
Astronomy The study of space and everything in it.
Nuclear Fusion When small atoms join together and make energy.
Telescope A tool used to see objects far away in space.
Cosmic Background Radiation Energy left over from the beginning of the universe.
Electromagnetic Spectrum All the different types of light and energy waves.
Redshift When light from an object shifts toward red because the object is moving away.
Big bang The idea that the universe started from a very small, hot, and dense point and expanded.
Galaxy A huge group of stars, gas, and dust held together by gravity.
Nebula A large cloud of gas and dust in space.
Black Hole An object in space with gravity so strong that even light cannot escape.
Neutron Star A very small, dense star left after a large star explodes.
