TermDefinition
Hypothalamus A part of the brain that helps control the pituitary gland and regulates many hormonal functions.
Pituitary gland A gland that produces and releases hormones that regulate growth, reproduction, metabolism, and other endocrine functions.
Thyroid A gland in the neck that produces hormones involved in metabolism, growth, and development.
Adrenal gland — A gland located above each kidney that produces hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.
Pancreas An organ that produces hormones such as insulin and glucagon to help regulate blood glucose levels.
Lymphadenopathy Abnormal enlargement or disease of the lymph nodes.
Lymphocyte A type of white blood cell that plays an important role in the immune system.
Splenomegaly Enlargement of the spleen.
Thymitis Inflammation of the thymus gland.
Lymphatic Relating to lymph or the lymphatic system, which helps maintain fluid balance and supports immune function.
Cardiologist A physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system.
Cardiology The study and medical specialty involving the heart and cardiovascular system.
Myocarditis Inflammation of the muscular tissue of the heart.
Endocarditis Inflammation or infection involving the inner lining of the heart.
Electrocardiogram A recording of the electrical activity of the heart.
