condenser lens bends the spreading light into an intense cone, onto the specimen
condenser knob adjust the height of the lens to control the intensity or sharpness of the illumination
iris diaphragm regulates the amount of light and makes unclear specimens easier to see
lever in control of opening and closing the iris diaphragm
specimen the actual object, or sample, being studied
cover slip flattens the sample and protects the specimen and microscope lens
scanning lens (4x) the shortest lens giving the widest field of view
low power lens (10x) a medium lens used to examine the overall layout of the specimen
high power lens (40x) the long lens allowing you to see individual cells, nuclei, eyc. without needing oil
oil immersion (100x) the longest lens designed to view incredibly small specimens
