| Term | Definition |

| address | the numbers and street name that describes where a person lives |
| axis | the imaginary line that runs through the center of earth from the North Pole to the South Pole |
| cardinal directions | the four main directions - North, South, East, and West |
| compass rose | the diagram on the map that shows the points of direction |
| continents | the seven main areas of land on earth |
| globe | a model of the earth |
| grid map | a map that uses letters and numbers in boxes to describe the location of objects |
| key/legend | the list of symbols on the map and what they stand for |
| map | shows objects from above, in smaller size, and in relation to other objects |
| North Pole | the northernmost part of earth |
| oceans | the four main bodies of water on earth |
| scale | shows how big the object on the map is compared to the real object |
| South Pole | the southernmost part of earth |
| symbol | something that represents an object or idea |
