Grammar

Use Commas to set off a tag, direct address

Why are commas needed? Commas are needed in dialogue and quotes to separate the words yes and no, tag questions, an d direct address. These commas make writing easier to understand.
Place a comma after the words yes or no to separate them from the rest of the sentence. Flip for examples. Yes, I am going to school today. No, that is a tortoise, not a turtle. Okay, you can ride my bike.
Place commas before tag questions to separate them from the rest of the sentence. Flip for examples. That elephant is magnificent, isn't it? Chuck arrived on time, didn't he? Kale is good for you, right?
Place a comma before or after words that directly address a person. Flip for examples. Jane, please lock the front door. Did you finish your chores, Liam? Hurry up, Lisa, or we will be late.
Where are commas needed? How did the window break Frank? How did the window break, Frank?
