Map Skills

TermDefinition
Address The numbers and street name that describes where a person lives.
Axis The imaginary line that runs through the center of the earth from the north pole to the south pole.
Cardinal Directions The four main directions- North, South, East, and West.
Compass Rose The diagram on a map that shows the points of direction.
Continents The seven main areas of land on earth.
Globe A model of earth.
Grid Map A map that uses letters and numbers in boxes to describe the location of objects.
Key\Legend The list of symbols on a map and what they stand for.
Map Show objects from above, in smaller size, and in relation to other objects.
North Pole The northernmost part of earth.
Oceans The four main bodies of water on earth.
Scale Shows how big the object on the map is compared to the real object.
South Pole The southernmost part of earth.
Symbol Something that represents an object or idea.
