Observations facts you notice using your senses
Inferences an explanation or conclusion you make based on your observations and what you already know
NWQ a thinking routine that scientists and engineers use at the beginning of an investigation to make sense of what they observe and to guide scientific questions.
Phenomena is something that happens in the natural world that you can observe and wonder about
Qualitative describing something using words. It focuses on the qualities or characteristics you notice with your senses.
Quantitative describing something using numbers. It focuses on quantity—how much, how many, or how big.
TAILS Acronym to help remember what goes on a graph... Title, Axis, Intervals, Labels, Scale
Independent Variable In a scientific investigation, the factor that is deliberately manipulated
Dependent Variable what you measure in an experiment. It is the result that changes because of what you did.
Control Variable something you keep the same in an experiment so it does not affect the results. It makes the test fair.
