Supine Lying down on the back, facing upward.
Prone Lying down on the stomach, facing downward.
Superior Toward the head or above
Inferior Toward the feet or below
Medial Closer to the middle line of the body
Lateral Further away from the midline
Proximal Closest to the attachment point
DIstal Furthest away
Sagittal Plane A vertical line that divides the body into a left and a right
Frontal Plane (Coronal) A vertical line that divides the body to front and back
Transverse Plane (Axial) A horizontal line that divides the body from up and down
Oblique Plane A cut made at an angle that is not completely horizontal or vertical
Anatomical Position Standing upright, facing forward
What are the four planes of the body? Sagittal, Frontal, Transverse and Oblique Plane.
What is a fixed table? A stationary table used to take images.
