TermDefinition
Atrium The upper part of the heart that receives blood before sending it to the lower chambers.
Ventricle The lower part of the heart that pumps blood out to the lungs and the rest of the body
Myocardium The heart muscle that helps the heart pump blood.
Pericardium A thin sac that covers and protects the heart.
Artery A blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart.
Vein It A blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart.
Capillary The smallest blood vessels where oxygen and nutrients move between the blood and the body's cells.
Blood Pressure (BP) The pressure of blood moving through the arteries.
Pulse The heartbeat that you can feel in places like your wrist or neck.
Heart Rate (HR) number of times the heart beats in one minute.
Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) It A test that checks how the heart is beating by recording its electrical activity.

Hypotension means low blood pressure
Tachycardia A heart rate that is faster than normal.
Arrhythmia heartbeat that is not regular. It may beat too fast, too slow, or unevenly.

Myocardial Infarction (MI) heart attack caused by blocked blood flow to part of the heart.
