Elements of Computer and Communication Systems

TermDefinition
Hardware The physical, tangible components of a computer system that you can see and touch (e.g., CPU, motherboard, monitor, keyboard, cables).
Software The intangible set of instructions, programs, or scripts that direct the hardware on how to perform specific tasks (e.g., Operating Systems, word processors, web browsers).
Data The raw unprocessed facts, figures, or inputs entered into the computer system before they are organized into meaningful information.
People(Users) The individuals who operate the computer systems, input the data, write the procedures, and utilize the resulting information.
Procedures The document rules, guidelines, and manuals that dictate how people should use the hardware, software, and data to ensure the system operates correctly and securely.
Communications(Network) The infrastructure (both hardware and software protocols) that enables multiple computers to connect, interact, and share data or resources with one another (e.g., routers, Wi-Fi, Ethernet).
