Terms/ Definitions for Symbols and Chemicals

QuestionAnswer
Atomic Number the number of protons in an atom
Coefficient number placed before a variable; in this case, a number written before an element
Chemical Formula a combination of letters and numbers that shows what is in a compound
Equation a sum in which the numbers are balanced
Subscript a number or symbol written below the line, represents the number of elements in a compound
Symbol something that stands for something else
Atomic Mass proton count combined with the neutron count
Reactants Elements before a chemical reaction
Products Elements after a chemical reaction, a new compound
