TermDefinition
Grids Filters out certain x-rays, use if anatomy that is measured greater than 10 cm
Components of the X-ray System X-ray tube, generator, control operating console
Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) Control that terminates exposure when sufficient radiation reaches the IR, goes hand and hand with ALARA
Two Classifications of the Human Skeleton Axial-forms the central core, Appendicular-forms the limbs and attachments
Name Some Body Positions Trendelenburg- head down 15 degrees, supine-lying face up, prone-lying face down, recumbent-lying down in genaral
Planes of the Body Sagittal- right/left portions, Midsagittal- equal right/left halves, Coronal/Frontal- anterior/posterior, Tranverse-superior/inferior
Name some Anatomical Terms Caudal-towards the feet, Cephalic-toward the head, proximal-closer to the point/trunk, distal-further from the point/trunk
Positioning Landmarks (proper alignment during imaging) CR-align parallel to the anatomical structures, AP projections-face the x-ray tube, back against IR, PA-opposite of AP, face the IR
kVp Adjustments controls beam energy, penetration and affect contrast-the QUALITY of the image
Hand and Wrist Imaging (how to properly center the CR) center CR perpendicular to the third MCP joint (for hand) , center CR midcarpal for the wrist
Name a few Body Movements Dorsiflexion-toes upward, Plantar flexion-toes downward, Rotation- turning around axis
Central Ray Angulation (What does angling the CR 25 degrees cephalic mean) to angle cephalic means to angle towards the head, this view is commonly used for the clavicle
Routine Positions for Upper Extremities (importance) AP, PA, lateral and oblique - it's important to capture different angles to see the full anatomy for diagnosis
Importance of Image Orientation to make sure the anatomy is fully on the IR and nothing is cut off. You don't want to repeat taking an image (ALARA)
Types of X-ray Tables Fixed table: stationary, routine exams, Floating table: moves multiple directions, Elevating table: adjust to height
Types Support Systems Ceiling-mounted tube support: moves along the ceiling tracks, C-arm: used in surgery & fluoroscopy, U-arm system: tube&receptor move together

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
