QuestionAnswer
Light waves are what type of wave? Transverse
How can light waves be modeled? As a ray
What is a ray? a line of energy that continues in one direction until it hits an object
What is a line of energy that continues in one direction until it hits an object? Ray
Light rays can be…. Reflected, refracted, absorbed
What does it mean to reflect? Bounce off a surface and move in a new direction
What word means bounce off a surface and move in a new direction? Reflect
What does refract mean? Bend
What word means bend? Refract
What does absorb mean? To take in
What word means to take in? Absorb
What do light waves allow us to do? See objects
Why are we able to see objects? Light waves
What must light do before we see it? Reflect off an object
What happens when light reflects off an object? We can see it
What are some parts of the eyes? Pupil, lens, retina
What do pupils, lens, and retinas make up? The eye
What is the black hole in your eye that allows light in? Pupi.
What does a pupil do? Allows light into your eye
What does a pupil look like? A black hole
What part of the eye bends and focuses images? Lens
What is the job of a lens? Bend and focus images
What part of the eye receives the image and sends electrical messages to the brain to be decoded? Retina
What is the job of the retina? To receive images and sends electrical messages electrical messages to the brain to be decoded
What determines color? Wavelength
How do we see that a banana is yellow? Light reflects off the banana and the wavelength
What connects the eye to the brain? Optic nerve
What is the optic nerve? Connects the eye to the brain
What 3 states can matter be? Transparent, translucent, or opaque
What lets no light through? Opaque
What is opaque Does not let light through
What is translucent Lets some light through, but not a lot
What lets some light through, but not a lot? Translucent
What is transparent? Lets light through and can be seen through clearly
What lets light through and can be seen through clearly? Transparent
What determines if something is transparent, translucent, or opaque? How much matter there is
Visible wavelengths are between ——- and ——- nanometers 380-780
How many nanometers are in a millimeter? 1 million
If waves are outside the 380-780 nanometer range…. Humans cannot see it
What kind of waves are invisible to humans? X-rays, Microwave, radio waves
