QuestionAnswer
What is the function of the digestive system/gastrointestinal system? It breaks down eaten material into nutrient molecules, absorbs water and ions, and eliminates undigested residue.
Breaks down carbohydrates in the saliva amylase
Pancreas Secretes a variety of enzymes that break down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins, as well as bicarbonate ions that neutralize stomach acids. It is important to note that this function corresponds to the exocrine portion of this organ.
Liver Produces bile, which aids in fat digestion and absorption.
Gall bladder stores and concentrates bile and secretes it into the small intestine.
Stomach muscular sac that can expand to hold a large meal. Muscles in the walls of this organ churn the food and digestive juices together to release its contents gradually into the small intestine, so that the intestine can better perform its function.
Small intestine a long, narrow, coiled tube in the abdomen that connects the stomach to the large intestine. It breaks down food and absorbs nutrients into the circulatory system, which in turn takes the nutrients to all the cells of the body.
Large intestine a muscular, wide tube connecting to the small intestine that absorbs water and turns food waste into solid stool
Respiratory system the group of organs and tissues in your body that lets you breathe, bringing in oxygen and pushing out waste gases like carbon dioxide
If there was an obstruction in the trachea, what reaction would you expect? both an increase in blood carbon dioxide levels and a decrease in blood oxygen levels
