Terms/ Definitions for Ecology

| Abudance | how much there is or how many there are of something |
| Climate | long–term weather patterns and average temperatures |
| Community | all of the interacting organisms in an area |
| Competition | type of interaction in which one organism gains a resource at the expense of another |
| Cooperation | type of interaction in which organisms both benefit |
| Distribution | area or areas where an organism is found |
| Diversity | variety of species found in a place |
| Ecosystem | set of living and nonliving things that function together |
| Environment | everything surrounding us |
| Habitat | place an organism lives |
| Interact | affect, connect with, or do things with other organisms |
| Pollution | spoiling resources, such as water, land, and air, by making them dirty or poisonous |
| Population | group of organisms of the same species in a big or small area |
| Predator | organism that hunts other living things for food |
| Prey | organism hunted by another organism for food, and the act of hunting by a predator |
| Resources | something an organism needs or can use |
| Biosphere | everything on earth, including the atmosphere |
| Biomes | regions of the world with similar climates, animals, and plants |
| Ecosystem | sets of living and nonliving things that function together |
