| equation | a mathematical sentence that uses an equals sign to show that two or more quantities are the same as one another. |
| distributive property | states that for any numbers, a, b, and c, the equation a(b+c) = ab+ac is true. |
| common factor | a number that is a factor of two or more numbers. |
| prime factorization | when you express any whole number as a product of primes, only primes, and nothing. |
| base | a power is the factor multiplied by itself repeatedly. |
| power | has two elements: the base and the exponent. |
| exponent | is the number of times you use the base as a factor. |
| greatest common factor | the largest factor two or more numbers have in common. |
| relatively prime | two numbers that do not have any common factors other than 1. |
| multiple | the product of a given whole number and another whole number. |
