What is Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)?(Hyperalimentation) (Hyperalimentation)Complete nutrition delivered through an IV. Contains * amino acids * dextrose * lipids * vitamins * minerals * electrolytes Patient receives ALL nutrition intravenously. Also called: Hyperalimentation.
What is Peripheral Parenteral Nutrition? Lower concentration nutrition. Given through peripheral veins. Cannot provide as much nutrition as TPN.
What is an epidural? Medication injected into the space around the spinal cord(epidural space) Commonly used: * labor * surgery * pain management
What is a (MDV)? multidose vial May be entered multiple times(utilized for mass-immunization campaigns)
When is a filter needle used? Used ONLY when withdrawing medication from an ampule. Removes glass particles. Never inject a patient using a filter needle.
