Why is the holiday of Shavuot called by this name? Shavuot means weeks. We count up 7 weeks from Pesach (when we were freed) until Shavuot (when we got the Torah).

With what do we decorate our homes and shuls for Shavuot and why? Flowers and grass to remind us of how Har Sinai looked during the giving of the Torah.
There is a custom to eat what type of food on Shavuot? We eat dairy foods to remind us of how the Jews only ate dairy at this time. Once the Jews accepted the Torah, they had to learn to prepare meat in a kosher way.
What is the custom to do all night on the first night of Shavuot? Learn Torah!
Why is there a custom to learn Torah all night on the first night of Shavuot? The Jews overslept on the day the Torah was given and now we must be extra careful not to sleep on such an important day.

Why do read Megillat Rut on Shavuot? On the day we celebrate receiving the Torah, we read about Rut who was willing to become poor in order to become Jewish and keep the Torah.
