| Monogenic disorders | are those caused by mutation in a single gene. |
| Chromosomal | Chromosomal disorders are caused by abnormalities in the number of chromosomes or by changes in chromosomal structure |
| Multifactorial | result from the interaction of many factors, both hereditary (mutations in multiple genes) and environmental. |
| Inflammation | Body's immunological response to tissue damage |
| Infection | Invasion and multiplication of pathogenic microorganisms |
| Microorganisms | Fungi, Protozoa, Viruses, Bacteria, Parasites |
| Trauma | An injury or wound caused by external force or violence to the head, chest, abdominopelvic region, neck, spine, and extremities |
| Neoplasia | A new and abnormal formation of tissue, often called a tumor |
| Benign | tumor that does not spread |
| Malignant | tumor (cancer) that spreads to other cells, tissues, and body parts |

| Sequela | condition that is the result of a prior disease |
