QuestionAnswer
Homophone Words that are pronounced the same as another word but have a different meaning and may be spelled differently
Antecedent What comes before an action or pronoun Ex. A kid sticking their tongue out causing another kid to do so Ex. TIMMY was a very shy kid; he struggled to talk to others.
Present Continuous Passive Voice [Object] + [is/are] + [being] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [Subject]
Indefinite Pronoun refer to a non-specific person, place, or thing Ex. Anyone, Some, All, Nobody, Everything
Interjection A very short sentence that conveys strong emotions Ex. Wow!
Coordinating Conjunction FANBOYS For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Clause a phrase that contains a subject and a verb
Subordinating Conjunction a conjunction used at the beginning of a subordinate (dependent) clause Ex. because, although, even though, since
Interrogative Sentence a sentence that asks a question Ends with a question mark
Phrase a group of words that contributes meaning but does not contain both a subject and a predicate
Declarative Sentence a sentence that makes a statement or gives an opinion Ends in a period Ex. I love my job.
Exclamatory sentence a sentence that expresses emotion Ends in an exclammation point
Syntax rules that govern the construction of words in order to make phrases, clauses, and sentences
Present Perfect Passive Voice [Object] + [have/has] + [been] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [Subject]
Future Tense Passive Voice [Object] + [will / "to be" going to] + [be] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [Subject]
Idiom a phrase or expression that does not mean the same as the literal words
Demonstrative pronouns this, that, these, those
Past Tense Passive Voice [Object] + [was/were] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [Subject]
Modal Verb Passive Voice [Object] + [modal verb] + [be] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [Subject]
Defining Relative Clause clause that gives essential information on the subject; needed for the meaning of the sentence Ex. I left my wallet THAT HAD MY CARD IN IT back home.
