20. be corrupted by under-the-table payments and other hanky-panky 犀利控诉句型。被台底交易(暗中行贿)和其他不正当手段/欺诈勾当所腐蚀。潜台词:under-the-table 极具画面感,hanky-panky(鬼把戏/不端行为)带有强烈的讥讽与谴责色彩。
21. bastion 名词(比喻)。堡垒、阵地。潜台词:通常用来形容某个群体、某种旧制度或传统观念死守的“最后阵地”(常暗含该阵地保守、难以攻破或与时代脱节)。
22. on the backs of someone 情感说服(Pathos)成语。靠剥削某人 / 建立在某人的痛苦(或血汗)之上。潜台词:带有极强的道德控诉力,指出上层的繁荣完全是以牺牲底层、弱势群体的根本利益为代价的。
23. unconscionable 高级定性形容词。肆无忌惮的、丧尽天良的、在道德上完全不可接受的。潜台词:其严重程度远超 unjust 或 wrong,强调这件事情彻底践踏了人类的良知底线,不容辩驳。
24. commensurate with 核心关联词。与……相称的、成比例的、完全对等的。潜台词:多指薪酬、惩罚、地位等在“正义与公平的分配合理度”上,应当与付出的努力或犯下的罪行完全1:1对等。
25. This canard persists only to maintain an indefensible, antiquated system. 顶级反驳全句(金句模板)。这种虚假的言论/谣言之所以能够流传,仅仅是为了维持一个在理智上站不住脚的、陈腐过时的体制。潜台词:canard 特指故意捏造的流言,indefensible 直接剥离了对方辩护的可能性。
