Medical Terminology

Osteoporosis A condition in which bones become weak, porous, and more likely to fracture.
Kyphosis An abnormal outward curvature of the upper spine, causing a hunched back.
Arthralgia Pain in one or more joints.
Arthroscopy A minimally invasive procedure that uses a small camera to examine or treat the inside of a joint.
Vertebroplasty A surgical procedure used to stabilize a fractured vertebra by injecting bone cement.
Hyperglycemia Higher-than-normal blood sugar levels.
Hypoglycemia Lower-than-normal blood sugar levels.
Insulin A hormone produced by the pancreas that helps move glucose from the blood into the body's cells
Thyroidectomy Surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland.
Endocrinology The branch of medicine that studies the endocrine glands and hormones.
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) The most common type of skin cancer. It develops in the basal cells of the epidermis and usually grows slowly.
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) A type of bacteria that is resistant to several antibiotics and can cause serious skin and soft tissue infections.
Bowen Disease An early form of squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer) that affects only the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis).
Melanoma A serious form of skin cancer that develops in melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin.
Dermatitis Inflammation of the skin that can cause redness, itching, swelling, and irritation.
Orchitis Inflammation of one or both testicles.
Prostatectomy Surgical removal of all or part of the prostate gland.
Vasectomy A surgical procedure that cuts or seals the vas deferens to prevent pregnancy.
Epididymitis Inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that stores and carries sperm.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) A noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that can make urination difficult.
Hysterectomy Surgical removal of the uterus.
Oophorectomy Surgical removal of one or both ovaries.
Mastitis Inflammation of the breast, often caused by infection during breastfeeding.
Endometriosis A condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus.
Salpingitis Inflammation of one or both fallopian tubes, usually caused by an infection.
