Angina Pectoris Chest pain, pressure, or tightness due to narrowed coronary arteries which temporarily reduces blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle.
Atherosclerosis Hardening of the arteries from plaque accumulation inside the artery walls
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Heart does not pump effectively
Coronary Heart Disease (CAD) A condition in which narrowed coronary arteries reduces the flow of blood carrying oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle itself
Hypertension (HTN) an abnormally high blood pressure; 130/80 or higher. Damages artery walls.
Myocardial Infarction (MI) also known as a heart attack: A condition in which a coronary artery is blocked, preventing any oxygen or nutrients to the heart muscle past the blockage which results in the affected heart muscle to die.
Pericardium/ pericardial Sac A protective membrane that surrounds the heart
Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) Poor circulation / blood flow that affects blood vessels outside of the heart but most commonly affects the legs and feet
Diabetes a condition in which the pancreas produces too little insulin or does not properly use insulin which results in elevated blood sugar
Hyperglycemia high blood sugar
Hypoglycemia low blood sugar
Polydipsia excessive thirst
Polyphagia excessive hunger
Polyuria excessive urination
Thyroid gland secretes thyroxin which regulates metabolism
Adrenal glands produce various hormones that initiate the body’s fight or flight response, help the body deal with stress, and regulate blood pressure
Pancreas produces insulin to help the body’s cells move glucose/sugar from the blood stream into the body cells to be used for energy
Symptoms of diabetes Polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria, Blurred Vision, Fruity smelling breath, Fatigue, impaired wound healing, parathesia, more prone to infection
Parathesia numbness or tingling of hands and feet
Hyperglycemia Symptoms Polydipsia (excessive thirst), Polyphagia (excessive hunger), Polyuria (excessive urination), Blurred vision, Fruity smelling breath
Hypoglycemia Confusion, Tremors, Diaphoresis (profuse sweating or feeling cold and clammy), Anxiety, Headache, Hunger, Fatigue, Weakness
Hypertension causes Atherosclerosis and hardening of arteries (less elastic)
Arteriosclerosis arteries become less elastic (hardening of arteries)
Hypertension symptoms Headache, blurred vision, dizziness, or nose bleeds (epistaxis).
