TermDefinition
Electrical components are devices that carry, control, or protect the flow of electric current
Wires and cables are conductors used to carry electrical current from one point to another.
Switches Devices used to open or close an electrical circuit.
Fuses and circuit breakers are safety devices that protect electrical circuits by stopping the flow of electricity during overload or short circuit.
Sockets/Outlets Points where electrical devices are connected to receive power.
Motors Convert electrical energy into mechanical motion.
Transformers Devices that increase or decrease voltage in circuits.
Electronics components are devices that control, amplify, or modify electric signals.
Passive Components Do not require external power to operate.
Active Components Require an external power source to operate.
Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are boards that mechanically support and electrically connect electronic components using conductive tracks.
Single-sided PCB Has components and tracks on one side.
Double-sided PCB Components on both sides; tracks on one or both sides.
Multi-layer PCB Several layers of circuits stacked together; used in advanced electronics
Flexible PCB Made of flexible material; can bend for special applications.
Screwdrivers are hand tools used to tighten or loosen screws in electrical and electronic work.
Pliers are hand tools used to hold, bend, twist, or cut wires and small components.
Wire Stripper is a tool used to remove insulation from electrical wires without damaging the conductor.
Multimeter is a measuring tool used to test voltage, current, resistance, and continuity in electrical circuits.
Ammeter A device used to measure the flow of electric current in a circuit, in amperes (A).
Voltmeter A device used to measure the electrical pressure or voltage across two points in a circuit, in volts (V).
Oscilloscope A device used to display and analyze the waveform of electrical signals, showing how voltage changes over time.
Solder A metal alloy used to join electronic components together by melting it with a soldering iron.
Soldering Flux A chemical used during soldering to clean and prepare the metal surfaces for better adhesion of solder.
Insulating Tape A non-conductive tape used to cover and protect exposed wires and connections.
Heat Shrink Tubing A plastic tube that shrinks when heated to insulate and protect wires or connections.
Importance of Proper Components (1) Components Ensures safety from electrical hazards. (2)Provides efficient operation of electrical and (3) Reduces maintenance and repair costs. (4) Helps develop practical skills in TVL students for future careers.
Resistors Limit or control the flow of current.
Capacitors Store and release electrical energy.
Inductors Store energy in a magnetic field when current flows.
Diodes Allow current to flow in only
Transistors Amplify or switch electrical signals.
Integrated Circuits (ICs) Miniature circuits with multiple electronic functions in one chip.
LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) Emit light when current passes through.
Soldering Iron is a hand tool used to heat solder, usually from an electrical supply at high temperatures above the melting point of the metal alloy.
