| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| constant of proportionality | in a proportional relation, y over x |
| proportion | an equation stating that two ratios are equal |
| proportional relationship | y = kx, on a graph it is linear and goes through the origin (0, 0) |
| proportional reasoning | the ability to understand and compare mathematical relationships using multiplication and division rather than addition and subtraction |
| bar diagram | a visual tool that uses rectangular bars to represent data or quantities |
| constant | a term that only contains a number |
| complex fraction | a fraction A/B where A and/or B are fraction and B is not zero |
| coordinate grid | formed by a horizontal number line called the x-axis and a vertical number line called the y-axis |
| dependent variable | a variable whose value changes in response to another (independent) variable |
| equation | a mathematical sentence that includes an equal sign to compare two expressions |
| equivalent | two things look different but represent the exact same value, amount, or outcome |
| equivalent ratio | ratios that express the same relationship |
| independent variable | a variable whose value determines the value of another (dependent) variable. |
| multiple | the product of the number and a whole number |
| ordered pair | identifies the location of a point in the coordinate plane. |
| rate | a ratio involving two quantities measured in different units |
| ratio | a relationship in which for every x units of one quantity, there are y units of another quantity |
| terms | a number, a variable, or the product of a number and one or more variables. |
| unit fraction | a fraction with a numerator of 1 and a denominator that is a who number greater than 1 |
| unit rate | the rate for one unit of a given quantity |
| x-axis | the horizonal number line that, together with the y-axis, forms the coordinate plane |
| y-axis | the vertical number line that, together with the x-axis, forms the coordinate plane |
