| Open Structure | Open chord tones between the upper 3 voices |
| Triad | 3 notes stacked in thirds (root, 3rd, 5th) |
| Non-harmonic Tone | Note that is not in the chord |
| Contrary Motion | Different directions |
| Similar Motion | Same direction, different interval |
| Common Tone | When 2 consecutive chords have a tone in common |
| Oblique Motion | one stays the same, other moves |
| First Inversion | 3rd is in the bass |
| Leading Tone | "Ti" / 7th of the scale, 1/2 step below tonic |
| Figured Bass | A harmonic short hand of a musical passage or work |
