Heart Diseases Outline 1

TermDefinition
CAD Coronary artery disease. The coronary arteries supply oxygenated blood to the heart muscle.
Arteriosclerosis Thickening of the Arterial Wall and loss of elasticity resulting in decreased blood flow through the arteries.
Atherosclerosis Form of Arteriosclerosis in which lipids or fats accumulate within the arterial wall.
Ischemia The lack of blood flow to the tissues of the heart.
Angina Chest pain that is the result of Ischemia. May be the first symptom of heart disease.
Myocardial Infarct (MI) Heart Attack (Myocardial: Heart Muscle, Infarct: Death of tissue)
Plaque Calcium deposited onto the wall of the artery, making the artery rigid
Cardiac Arrythmia or Dysrhythmia Disturbances in the rhythm of the heart
