NA in Long-Term Care

| long-term care | given in long term care facility for people who need 24 hour skilled care |
| terminal illness | a illness that will eventually cause death |
| chronic condition | condition that last long periods of time |
| home health care | car provided in a person's home |
| assisted living | facilities for people who need some help with daily tasks but do not need 24 hour service |
| adult day services | adult day care, people who need some help and supervision during certain hours. |
| acute care | 24 hour skilled care given to hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers. short term immediate care for illness or injury |
| hospice care | facilities or homes for people who have six months or less to live. |
| activities of daily living (ADL's) | assisting walking, eating, drinking, dressing, transferring and elimination. |
| person-centered cared | emphasizes the individuality of the person who needs cares. |
| trauma-informed care | an approach to patient care that recognizes that people may have experienced trauma in their lives |
| medicare | federal health insurance program available for people 65 or older, any age with permanent kidney failure, or certain disabilities |
| medicaid | medical assistance programs determined by income and specific circumstances |
| NA's tasks | bathing, elimination, walking, transferring, vital signs, meals, dressing, mouth care, making and changing beds, and keeping clean |
| nursing assistant | performs assigned tasks and provides personal care. Must have at least 75 hours of training and must pass competency evaluation |
| registered nurse | in LTCF, coordinates, manages, and provides skilled nursing care. |
| licensed practice nurse | licensed practical nurse that can give medication and treatments to patients |
| advanced practice registered nurse | registered nurse who completed post graduate training and can make diagnoses and prescribe treatment |
| physician or doctor | licensed professional who diagnoses disease or disability and prescribes treatment and medication |
| physician assistant | licensed professional that diagnoses disease and disability and develops treatments plans and can prescribe medication under supervision of a doctor |
