Contrast and/or Contradiction when a character does something that is different than what you would expect.
Shifts and Changes when micro actions (small moments) when a character acts slightly different from what you would expect.
Memory Moment when the author chooses to interrupt the action to tell about a memory; a flashback.
Words of the Wiser when an older character offers serious advice to the main character.
Repetition of Words and Symbols looking for the repetition of words, objects, or colors.
Aha Moment when a character realizes, understands, or finally figures out something.
repetition the purposeful repeating of a word or phrase within literature to create a rhythm or make a point
simile compares two unlike things using "like" or "as" to create vivid imagery.

Character vs. self: Invited to two parties, which one will you go to?, Should you pass the ball or take the shot yourself?, Hamlet is struggling with depression, self doubt, and the moral duty of revenge.
What is a caption? A short piece of text placed under or beside an image, photograph, or illustration to describe its content or provide context.
What are headings? Titles or labels at the beginning of a section of text that indicate what the following content is about.
What are footnotes? Notes placed at the bottom of a page that provide extra information, citations, or explanations for a specific part of the main text.
What are visuals? Non-text elements like photos, diagrams, charts, maps, or illustrations used within a document.

resolution the conclusion where the main conflict is resolved
direct characterization the author directly tells the reader the characters info and character traits
indirect characterization the reader must infer the characters personality based on what the character says, does, or thinks
call to action an instruction to the audience to take specific action
