What does the top number of the time signature tell you? The number of beats in a measure.
What does the bottom number of the time signature tell you? What kind of note gets 1 beat (What note gets one beat)
What does a dot after a note tell you? It equals half the value of the note.
What does pianissimo mean? Very soft
What does piano mean Soft
What does mezzo piano mean? Medium soft
What does mezzo forte mean? Medium loud
What does forte mean? Loud
What does fortissimo mean? Very loud
What does crescendo mean? Getting louder
What does decrescendo mean? Getting softer
What does Diminuendo mean? Getting softer
What does grave mean? Very, very low
What does Adagio mean? Very slow
What does Andante mean? Slow like a casual walking speed
What does Moderato mean? Medium
What does Allegro mean? Fast
What does Presto mean? Very fast
What does Vivace mean? Very, very fast
What does Tempo di Marcia mean? Tempo of a march
What does Ritartando mean? To slow down gradually
What does Allargando mean? To slow down and crescendo (usually at the climax of a piece)
What does Rallentando mean? To slow down gradually (same as ritardando)
What does Maestoso mean? Majestically
What does Staccato mean? Detached
What does the accent mean? To make stand out
What does Marcato mean? Short and accented
What does Sforzando mean? To sting the note and immediately get softer (often times, then crescendo)
What does Tennuto mean? Full value or to stretch the note.
What does Whole beats mean? #, #, #.....
What does Half beats mean? # +, #+, #+....
What does Quarter beats mean? # e + a, # e + a,....
What does Eight beats mean? # b e b + b a b
