Chem

Alpha particle A helium nuleas composed of 2 protons and 2 neutrons
Artificial Transmutation transmutation caused from humans to create new elements
Beta particle a high speed electron that originates from the nucleus of an atom during a nuclear reaction
Fission splitting of large heavy nucleus
Fushion combining of small nuclei
Gamma ray a form of high energy electromagnetic radiation with no mass or charge
half life the time it takes for half of the atoms in a sample to decay
Mass defect the missing mass when matter becomes energy
Nucleon protons and neutrons in the nucleus
Positron a particle that is identical in mass to an electron but carries a positive charge
Product the new substance that is formed
Radioisotope an isotope of an element that has an unstable nucleus and undergoes radioactive decay
Reactant the substance before reaction takes place
Tracer a substance contains a radioisotope used to follow the process tracks movement of chemical behavior
Transmutation when the nucleus of one element changes into the nucleus of another element
